CONCEPT

SHIKAKU (pronounced "shee-kah-koo") takes its name from a Japanese sound shared by words meaning square (四角), vision (視覚), angle of view (視角), and blind spot (死角).

SHIKAKU05 maps white light onto geometric paper forms. Responding to sound, the light moves across the shapes like the flow of a river, creating a quiet, meditative space.

SHIKAKU05 was developed as part of the SHIKAKU07 project during CHIKA's 2013 residency at Eyebeam, and shown at REVERSE in Brooklyn.
